A NEW HOME IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
"A New Home in the Mediterranean", sponsored by Blueway's sustainability initiative Greenway and developed in cooperation with The Society for the Protection of Turtles (SPOT), one of the most valuable organizations of the island in this sense, and the TRNC Environmental Protection Department, is a social responsibility project that symbolizes respect for the habitats of other creatures living with us in nature.
The project connects the Caretta Caretta turtles, which prefer the Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus as their home and starting point for a new living, to the Terra and Mediterra homeowners who choose to live here under the security of Kıbrıs Developments: A new life in Mediterranean…
FOR SAFE STEPS: COASTAL CLEANING AND CAGES
This social responsibility project, which will run until the year of 2026, includes the turtles that have selected the Mediterranean as their home and visit the major beaches of the island, particularly the Mediterranean coast, every year during the specific periods in order to lay their eggs and start their new lives.
In order to keep these living spaces safe and provide turtles with a more sheltered life, on behalf of the Terra and Mediterra homeowners, Greenway undertook the construction of 200 cages with the prototype that SPOT has determined. For every step of the project that it sponsored, SPOT organized the calendar of the process with the volunteers within the SPOT's own organization and at first, the gradual cleaning of the Mediterranean coast was initiated.
A total of 132 kilograms of waste in the Mediterranean Coast was picked by SPOT and Greenway volunteers, separated in the form of plastic and other wastes into separate bags.
After the cleaning that was made before the spawning period of turtles, the cages were located in the areas that were determined by the experts and the beginning of the new life was ensured by marking those cages.
Coming from our roots.
FIRST STEPS IN MEDITERRANEAN COAST: ENFREEING TURTLETS
After the spawning period in August, a gathering was formed to watch the first steps from the safe area that was created together, again. The turtlets that had been taken out of the nest previously, met the Greenway volunteers and Terra homeowners in the unique sunset of the Mediterranean Coast.
The excitement that was felt before the first moment in the waves was a felt, known feeling that was the representative of a new life. The bravery and naturality of caretta carettas, their home that they met for the first time, although it had always been familiar and the moment they felt Mediterranean Sea created an unforgettable and miraculous moment for everybody that was there. In the hope of meeting in 30 years later again, they started their journeys with all the blessings.
